THANE: Thane Municipal Corporation released a draft of its first revised development plan for the city on Monday, proposing several open spaces and recreation avenues, among others.

Citizens can access the plans and submit their suggestions or objections within the next 60 days, officials said.

The Congress, however, has objected to this sudden and discreet announcement of the plan and questioned if it was a ploy to benefit a certain business fraternity and secure funding for the forthcoming elections.

“The first development plan for Thane city was approved in 1999 and was due for revision after its tenure of 20 years ended a few years back. The revised development plan, along with detailed plans and maps, is available for public access on the TMC website and also at the municipal headquarters at Panchpakhadi. Copies of these can be obtained by paying a nominal fee,” said a civic official.

The city, which lacks adequate open space, has 62 parks, a botanical garden, 63 playgrounds, seven sports complexes, 24 recreation grounds, four multi-purpose grounds, an urban forest park, and town park reserved, officials said.
