Upstairs, Lucy made an exception to her rule and painted some of the pine white to brighten the primary bedroom that sits in the apex of the A-frame. She also took Gregory’s suggestion to create a larger window with a built-in seat. “The bedroom had no light in it. It was just a dark cave,” she recalls, adding that the crisp look is a refreshing departure from the warmth of the lower level.

Gregory designed an enchanting window seat with built-in storage and a custom cushion made with a burgundy and ivory Holland & Sherry fabric.

With Gregory’s direction, Lucy expanded the cramped en suite, which she outfitted with charcoal penny tile floors, a soapstone vanity, a vintage mirror, and a white subway tile shower with a natural linen curtain. “We were able to carve a really useful, functional bathroom out of a very tight, limited space,” he says. “And it actually came out quite charming.” It most certainly did.

“I helped Lucy formulate how to rearrange the entry so we could expand the bathroom and add a shower without eating too much of the bedroom up,” explains Gregory.
