TRICHY: Trichy corporation has announced incentives for residents paying current tax dues for the ongoing financial year (April 2025 to March 2026) within April 30. Owners paying their current property tax demand will get a 5% waiver from their total dues.
There are 2.4 lakh property tax assessments in the city, and corporation annually generates around 137 crore as revenue. With around 50 crore annually accumulated as arrears, corporation aimed to encourage residents to pay their current tax dues on time has invited residents to avail 5% of their total tax demand as incentives if the payment was made before April 30.
A sum of 5,000 has been set as the maximum ceiling of the waiver. The civic body has invoked Section 84(1) of the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act 1998 to facilitate incentives. “In 2023, when we made a similar incentives announcement, tax collection increased to 32% within the first month of the new financial year. We hope for a similar response this time, quick payment would help us to focus on properties maintaining arrears in property tax for years,” a senior corporation official said.
