GURUGRAM: Construction and demolition waste has been dumped on a 6-acre site opposite to a school in Sector 47 for the past two years, and repeated complaints to civic authorities have been ignored, residents said on Sunday.
The area, earmarked for a market that was to be developed in the sector, has turned into a dumpsite, with piles of construction waste accumulating for years, they said. MCG and Haryana Shehari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) have not taken any action against it, residents added. “We have been living with this dumpsite for two years now. Initially, only few trucks were dumping waste, but over the past six months, more trucks have come in and dumped debris here. They are dumping at odd hours, making it difficult to catch them. We have filed multiple complaints with MCG and HSVP, but nothing has changed for years,” said Virender Tyagi, RWA president of Sector 47.
The site, located in front of Delhi Public School, has heaps of bricks, concrete and other construction debris. Residents alleged that it raises environmental and health risks, especially for students of the school who are there was hours in a day. Some people have raised concerns about dust pollution and respiratory illnesses because of long exposure to it. “Not only C&D waste, but illegal parking for cabs and encroachment is plaguing the area. It’s high time the authorities stepped in and resolved this issue. The land, which was originally earmarked for a market, should be reclaimed and developed as it was meant to be,” said Prateek Jain, general secretary of Sector 47 RWA.Asked about the problem, MCG executive engineer Nijesh Kumar said he will direct a team to inspect the site. “Swift action will be taken,” he said. clear.
