NOIDA: Over 4,000 homebuyers are likely to be affected as the pollution control board has recommended construction of four residential projects be stopped immediately as the builders have not obtained mandatory environmental clearances.

Inspections were carried out at Ascon Pride Villa, Purushottam Estate, Dwarika City, and Sahara Enclave, which span over 20,000 sqm, after a Ghaziabad resident, Rajendra Tyagi, submitted a complaint with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Dec 9 flagging illegal construction activities at five projects.

The petitioner claimed unauthorised construction activities were going on at 18 villages in Noida and more than 55 villages in Greater Noida. According to the petition, nearly 1.50 lakh villas have come up or are under construction in these villages. Over 1,100 colonies have also cropped up. Similar unauthorised constructions were rampant in areas under the Yamuna Expressway authority too.

In Nov, show-cause notices were issued to five projects and only one of them in Surajpur Site C could produce NOCs issued by the pollution control board, UPPCB regional officer (Greater Noida) DK Gupta said.

Subsequently, UPPCB wrote to its Lucknow headquarters recommending shutting down construction at these projects. So far, closure orders have been issued for Ascon Pride Villa, officials said.

According to UPPCB officials, the builders have sold plots, villas and flats in the four other projects without obtaining layout approvals as well. The groundwater department is also likely to inspect the premises for unauthorised borewells.
