The Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board (UPCB) on Wednesday sealed nine hotels in the town after they failed to obtain required consent to operate from UPCB, despite prior notices.
R K Chaturvedi, regional officer, UPCB, said that in a survey of 282 hotels done last year, these nine hotels were operating without valid Consolidated Consent and Authorisation (CCA) from UPCB, for which they were issued notices.
National Green Tribunal (NGT) had directed UPCB to take action against hotels running without a valid CCA. In November last year, UPCB issued notices to 27 hotels, asking them to shut down their properties and seek required clearance from UPCB but these nine hotels failed to comply.
A joint delegation of the UPCB, Mussoorie Municipal Council, Jal Sansthan, and electricity department were involved in the sealing process.
