GURUGRAM: MCG has made self-certification of property tax data mandatory for owners to execute sale, purchase, lease and rental registrations at the revenue department office. According to officials, the move will help ensure that data of property owners — such as their names, plot size and address — are correct and the tax bills generated are accurate.
Property owners can self-certify the data on the govt portal property.ulbharyana.gov.in. They will have to pay outstanding dues, if any, and obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC), which is already mandatory for registration of properties.
The decision was made in a review meeting chaired by MCG commissioner Narhari Singh Banger on Tuesday. The civic body has also decided to launch a mega campaign in collaboration with RWAs of the city for self-certification.
A survey by a private agency in January 2022 had found that 5.1 lakh properties fall under MCG’s ambit. Residents had complained that the new property IDs generated had incorrect details, creating a faulty database. MCG is gradually rectifying the data based on residents’ complaints and checks by officials.
“Self-certification will now be mandatory to execute any kind of registration of properties. A training programme will be organised for RWAs so that they can further assist residents to self-certify their property tax data. Officials will hand over a list of properties where self-certification hasn’t been done yet to RWAs in their respective areas. Properties under the ownership of other govt agencies will also be self-certified with the assistance of our staff,” MCG commissioner said. Banger also directed officials to promptly address applications for new property IDs and rectifications in property tax data. He also said objections should be resolved in accordance with the time limit set under the Right To Service Act. MCG generated an income of Rs 250 crore from property tax in 2023-24, just 50% of its Rs 500 crore target. Officials, however, said there was a rise of 30% in the revenue collected compared to 2022-23, when it had earned Rs 186 crore from property tax.
