COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Corporation has granted nod for 6,123 building licence applications in the year 2023.

According to corporation officials, the civic body received as many as 8,668 building license applications last year. Of this, 6,123 were approved while 2,197 were rejected.

Town planning department officials said that key reasons for rejection were flaws in layout. If there are no flaws and the applications fulfilled all the regulations, they are cleared within 30 days. Only in case of any certificate correction or clarification, the process exceeds 30 days, officials said.

Corporation officials said that they have intensified the process to issue building licenses this year. The applicants should ensure that they adhere to Rule 23, Form-8 (Annexure 13) of the Tamil Nadu Combined Development and Building Rules, 2019 for grant of licence.

Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran has also notified the penalty limits for violations in buildings. Penalty would be levied for deviations detected during the foundation level, basement level, roof level, and then an additional penalty for each floor. Commercial buildings would attract higher penalty than residential buildings.
