BENGALURU: Architects can approve smaller building plans without BBMP’s intervention, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar said at Designuru 4.0 Friday. Themed “Adaptive reuse and sustainability”, the exhibition has been organized by Indian Institute of Interior Designers Bangalore, Regional Chapter (IIID-BRC), at Rangoli Metro Boulevard here.

Students, designers and architects have displayed their works at the event, which will be on till January 25. The exhibition has talks, panel discussions, design installations, and exhibits on various topics.

Shivakumar said, “People have to run from pillar to post in BBMP to obtain building approvals. We will soon issue a government order enabling authorised architects to self-declare building plan without having the need to get it approved from the Palike.”

“Authorised architects can function like chartered accountants do. They can design the building within legal provisions and self-declare them to BBMP. We believe that all of you will uphold the law of the land. This initiative is to prevent corruption and harassment from BBMP officials,” he explained, saying more details will be spelt out later.

“Architects make a city. They are responsible for all the beautiful buildings we see in Bengaluru. The government is here to lend any support required by the fraternity,” he added.
