Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is set to conduct a ‘geotechnical survey’ for Phase 3 of the Metro project at an approximate cost of Rs 5.50 crore, with the survey work expected to commence soon.

This route will connect JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura (32.15 km) and will feature 22 stations along the Outer Ring Road (Orange Line). Additionally, it will connect from Hosahalli Station to Sunkadakatte Depot (12.5 km) with nine stations to be constructed.

Regarding this, the tender process for the survey has been completed by BMRCL. In the first phase, the Hyderabad-based Mangalam Consultancy Services will conduct the survey from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Mysuru Road Station. In the second phase, Secon Pvt Ltd will handle the survey from Mysuru Road Station to Kanteerava Studio Station. The third phase will be from Kanteerava Studio to Kempapura Station, undertaken by Myrtle Project Company. In the fourth phase, Secon Pvt Ltd will conduct the survey from Hosahalli Station to Sunkadakatte Depot.

The corporation has already started pre-construction preparations for the project, including land acquisition and other processes. Now, the survey will be conducted for the construction of elevated tracks and Metro stations. The three companies will carry out the survey, and BMRCL has directed them to submit the report within the next five months.

The proposed Orange Line (Kempapura-JP Nagar 4th Phase) will intersect with the Blue Line (KIA-Reshme Mandali) and the Red Line (Sarjapur to Hebbal) at Hebbal. Additionally, there will be a connection with the suburban rail system. This route will connect Peenya Station on the Green Line of Tumakuru Road, JP Nagar Station, Mysuru Road Station on the Purple Line, and Sumanahalli Interchange on the Hosahalli-Kadabagere route.

On Kanakapura Road, this line will connect with the JP Nagar Metro Station and will conclude at JP Nagar 4th Phase on Bannerghatta Road with an interchange facility. BMRCL will acquire 75 acres of land on this route to construct a depot.

Meanwhile, BMRCL has commenced the land acquisition process for the construction of three new Metro stations as part of Phase 3 of its ongoing expansion project. These new stations are slated to be built at JP Nagar 5th Phase, Kamakya, and Hosakerehalli, marking a significant step forward in the city’s metro network development. An official said, “Phase 3 of the project includes two new corridors. To facilitate the construction of Phase 3 project,

BMRCL needs to acquire 1,29,743 square metres of private land, which has already been identified. The process has officially begun, with BMRCL notifying the affected landowners. The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) will oversee the acquisition and hand over the land to BMRCL. Compensation for the landowners will be based on the current market value of the land, which BMRCL is currently in the process of assessing.”

In addition to the new stations, BMRCL is exploring the possibility of constructing a double-decker Metro line. If approved, this line could be constructed above the existing elevated metro line, or alternatively, the current elevated structure may be demolished to make way for the new line.

“To finalise the plans for this ambitious project, BMRCL will coordinate closely with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which will also provide funding support for the construction of the double-decker metro line. This collaboration is crucial to ensuring that the project aligns with the city’s broader urban development goals and that it proceeds smoothly and efficiently,” an official added.
