BHOPAL: The second phase of Bhopal Metro construction will impact one-third less properties compared to phase one execution, according to the social impact assessment and resettlement plan submitted to the govt.

Metro Phase II’s 14.14 km blue line metro connecting Bhadbada Square to Ratnagiri is anticipated to commence construction before March’s end, according to MPMRCL sources.

MPMRCL surveys and schematic assessment provided to the private contractor have proven accurate on-ground, with ‘good for construction’ approval forthcoming, according to sources.

The blue line metro, an entirely elevated corridor, would primarily cause temporary dislocations as per the impact assessment.

Along the approximately two-kilometre stretch on Chiklod road (Jehangirabad), the primary impact would involve pushing back extending sheds during corridor construction. Entering from Barkhedi, approximately two kilometres of road would be affected, mostly involving removal of 10-feet front sheds. Post-construction, temporary displacement can be reversed, subject to BMC and administration policy for the area.

Beyond Chiklod road, the blue line Metro’s impact remains minimal. The assessment categorises impacts into temporary shifting and permanent relocation.

The private contractor has optimised R&R planning following MPMRCL’s preliminary survey conducted over the past five years, incorporating multiple stakeholder and public consultations.

The RTFCTLARR Act, 2013 governs the policy legal framework. The R&R implementation plan’s total cost is estimated at Rs. 446.87 Crore for the entire Bhopal metro project so far.

The Blue Line from Bhadbada Square to Ratnagiri Tiraha comprises 14 elevated stations. The 14.164 km route runs West-East, beginning at Bhadbhada Square, following Bhadbhada Road, Jehangirabad Road, Chicklod Road, Pool Bogda Road and Raisen Road, terminating at Ratnagiri Tiraha.
