Chandigarh administration to introduce Aadhaar-based authentication for property registration, ET RealEstate

CHANDIGARH: For registration of properties, the Chandigarh administration will soon introduce Aadhaar-based authentication system that will help verify an applicant’s identity using their Aadhaar number. It involves submitting the Aadhaar number along with demographic or biometric information to the Unique Identification Authority of India’s (UIDAI) Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR).

Nishant Kumar Yadav, deputy commissioner-cum-estate officer, said, “We submitted a proposal to UIDAI for its approval for the start of Aadhaar-enabled verification for applicants during property registration. The service is expected to start next month.” After approval, the Aadhaar authentication will be added to the verification process for sale-purchase of property.

In this, authentication will be done through a biometric system. This service will be started on a volunteer basis. Along with this, a similar process will be started for the authentication of PAN cards for property. While registering any kind of property related to sale-purchase, the applicant’s documents are checked manually.

“This takes a lot of time, and the possibility of discrepancies in the documents cannot be ruled out. To make the system transparent, now the documents will be authenticated with Aadhaar UIDAI through thumb impression in the biometric system. After the biometrics, the system will automatically fetch the necessary data from the CIDR. This will speed up the process of document and identity verification, bring in transparency, and prevent any fraud or impersonation.”

Last month, the administration launched the document registration system, namely, ‘National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS)’, ‘Online Event Permissions System’ and ‘Online Certified Copy of Record of Rights’ in the sub-registrar office of Chandigarh. Through NGDRS, online appointments can now be taken, which reduces the need for in-person visits to the registrar office. .
