Gurugram civic body to hold doorstep drive to fix property ID errors, ET RealEstate

GURUGRAM: Three years after a private agency’s flawed property ID survey of the city, MCG has decided to conduct a comprehensive door-to-door survey to rectify errors.

The decision was made at a monthly review meeting on Monday, chaired by MCG commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg, who said, “Teams should be formed to visit households to ensure that errors in property tax data are corrected swiftly.”

The commissioner instructed officials that all pending objections related to property tax should be resolved within the next two days.

This direct approach is considered the most reliable method to ensure complete accuracy in the property identification data, officials say. Garg said the process of self-certification for property tax should be expedited.

“Officials should ensure prompt resolution of claims and objections related to property tax and that applications should not be rejected or reverted without valid reasons. If there are deficiencies in applications for property tax data correction or new property ID creation, objections should be noted all at once,” Garg said.

He clarified that if an officer or employee repeatedly raises objections on the same application, it will be considered improper procedure. It was in Jan earlier this year that the MCG commissioner initiated disciplinary proceedings against a taxation department clerk for unnecessarily delaying a property ID correction file pending for eight months.

The commissioner proposed a chargesheet under rule 7 (major penalty) of the Haryana Civil Services (punishment and appeal) Rules, 2016.

TOI reported on Nov 10 that Haryana at that time had 74,227 objections pending for rectification in the property IDs database. Of these objections, a staggering 85% were reverted to citizens and were pending with them, whereas only 15% were pending with the municipal corporations.

The NCR regions of Gurgaon and Faridabad accounted for more than 30% of the total objections, with a considerable number awaiting resident action after being returned by officials.

Statistical analysis showed that 88% of objections in Gurgaon and Faridabad were returned to residents and remain unresolved.
