GHAZIABAD: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) to complete the handover of the Indirapuram township to the civic body by February next year.

Earlier this month, an order issued by Nitin Gokarn, the principal secretary of the housing and urban planning department, asked the GDA and the municipal corporation to sort out differences and complete the handover of seven colonies — Indirapuram, Indraprastha, Swarn Jayantipuram, Koyal Enclave, Madhuban Bapudham, Indrakunj and Tulsi Niketan — to GMC.

The CM, who was in NCR for Gautam Buddha University’s annual convocation ceremony on Sunday, briefly met Sahibabad MLA Sunil Sharma and BJP councillors from Indirapuram over the issue.

Indirapuram ward number 100 councillor Sanjay Singh told TOI that the CM instructed GDA vice-chairperson RK Singh in the presence of GMC commissioner Vikramaditya Singh Malik and mayor Sunita Dayal to complete the pending works in the township — repairing road and sewer, and streetlighting — and hand the township over to GMC.

“The CM set a February deadline for completion of handover processes before the dates for the general election are announced,” Singh said. He added that UP principal secretary (urban development) Amrit Abhijat has now called a meeting on January 28 to discuss the modalities of handover.

A GDA official on Monday confirmed that directions for Indirapuram’s handover were issued by the CM but declined to elaborate on the matter.

The handover of the township from the GDA has been in the works since 2016. Both the development authority and the municipal corporation have conducted their surveys, but they are yet to reach a consensus on the terms and conditions.

The corporation has asked the GDA to either complete development work in these areas or pay Rs 365 crore to the civic body to do it on its behalf. After deliberations, the amount was slashed to Rs 288 crore but stalemate has been continuing.
