BHOPAL: Bhopal development plan 2031, for which due processes have been completed, should be adopted immediately by the state government. New development plan for the future needs of the state capital can follow, said representatives of Bhopal citizens forum (BCF) at a press conference here on Sunday.
Not opposed to a newer development plans that would come about coming years, BCF representatives stressed further delay in implementation of Bhopal master plan, 2031 is undesirable.
Recently, a discussion on Bhopal master plan was headed by MP urban development minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and other elected representatives. Later a BMC release stated a newer master plan would developed, overlooking the existing Bhopal 2031 draft masterplan. Some reports stated, a new plan is to be created in keeping with Bhopal development needs up to 2047.
Last Bhopal development plan was prepared in 1995 and was intended to be updated in a decade. For 29-years Bhopal has not had a new city development plan.
“Process for Bhopal development plans 2031 has been completed. It should be adopted without delay. Newer master plans and modifications is always a prerogative of the government,” said Former DGP and member of Bhopal Citizens Forum, Arun Gurtoo. Delay in implementation of city master plan is adversely impacting city development, environment and investments, according to experts.
Retired MP housing and environment deputy secretary and town planner, Varsha Naolekar explained, “A development plan is generally for a decade. Proposing a plan that would cater to city needs for more than two decades is unheard off.” Fast moving technology changes, population pressures and other city infrastructure needs are difficult to predict, for a two-decade long period.
BCF representatives, lake conservation cell, Kamal Rathi, treasurer Harish Bhawani and others were present. BCF is a forum comprising of retired bureaucrats, academicians and professionals. last year, BCF approached the MPHC over inaction and delay in not finalising and implementing the Bhopal Development Plan, 2031. Matter is pending before the court.
