LUCKNOW: City-based hoteliers and restaurant owners were on Thursday briefed about the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives on indiscriminate boring.
In a meeting chaired by district magistrate Suryapal Gangwar, they were informed about the NGT order, which pointed out that 1,407 out of 1,903 hotels in nine cities, including Lucknow, did not obtain no objection certificates (NOCs) to extract groundwater. The tribunal subsequently directed the authorities to undertake remedial measures.
The hoteliers have been directed to revise their land use to avoid any action against them.
As per the report submitted by the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board submitted in May 2023, there are over 330 hotels and banquets and only 170 of them have so far obtained the required NOC.
“The hotel representatives should collectively apply to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), municipal corporation, UP Industrial Development Authority, and district panchayat to change the land use and obtain permissions from the concerned department as per the rules, failing to do so would invite action,” Gangwar said.
