INDORE: Continuing its crackdown against illegal structures, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Monday demolished around half-a-dozen houses in an illegal colony under its Zone 4.

Acting on instructions of IMC commissioner Harshika Singh, the civic body’s removal team on Monday reached Anjani Nagar that was illegally being developed in ward 17 under Zone 4.

A team of more than 50 labourers led by senior officials demolished around half-a-dozen under-construction structures. Five earth movers were pressed into service. During the removal, some of the affected persons registered protest, but to no avail.

IMC’s team continued the drive as heavy police force present on the spot managed to disperse the crowd and kept the situation under control.

During the drive, some of the affected persons alleged IMC officials of being biased since some of the structures, which were developed in the illegal colony, were not demolished. To this, the officials claimed that families were residing in those houses, so they were given some time to vacate before carrying out the demolition.

Upto 100% hike in property rate proposed in Indore's 49 areas

The district evaluation committee led by collector Asheesh Singh saw senior district registrar Amresh Naydu proposing a rise in the present guideline of property rate to be implemented from April 1, 2024.
