GHAZIABAD: Govt has directed GDA to coordinate with NCR Transport Corporation to ensure that the proposed routes for rapid rail from the upcoming airport in Jewar to Ghaziabad don’t fall in the alignment of the Sector 62-Sahibabad metro extension.

The direction was made at a meeting chaired by additional chief secretary for housing and urban planning Nitin Ramesh Gokarn, officials said on Wednesday.

“On the direction of govt, we will shortly hold talks with NCRTC to discuss the alignment of the proposed RRTS corridor from Ghaziabad South to Jewar airport. Since DMRC is also expected to take up the Noida Sector 62 to Sahibabad metro extension project, we will have to assess that the alignment route of the two projects don’t overlap,” a GDA official said.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in January, submitted a revised project report to govt for the 5km corridor from Noida Electronic City in Sector 62 to Sahibabad. The estimated cost of construction is Rs 1,873.3 crore.

“This is a positive development, and we expect that the state govt will soon take a call on approving the funding pattern suggested by DMRC after we conclude the meeting with NCRTC,” the GDA official added.

According to the DPR, five stations will be developed on this corridor. Vaibhav Khand, DPS Indirapuram and Shakti Khand stations will cater to the Indirapuram township. Vasundhara (Sector 7) and Sahibabad stations will cater to commuters in Vasundhara and Vaishali.

The Noida International Airport (NIA) to Ghaziabad rapid rail corridor has been proposed as a 72km stretch to be developed over two phases.

In phase 1, the Ghaziabad to Kasna stretch will be built with seven stations — Ghaziabad South, Greater Noida West (Sector 4), Greater Noida West (Sector 2), Knowledge Park V, Surajpur, Pari Chowk and Ecotech 6.

And in phase 2, there will be four stations — Dankaur, YEIDA North (Sector 18), YEIDA Central (Sector 21) and NIA.
