PANAJI:With the guidelines for PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana being notified, over 300 residential houses will soon get rooftop solar system (RTS) in the state to generate ‘green power’. Over 9,000 people had registered for the scheme but only 379 applications received the state’s OK to install RTS.
Currently there are 59 houses connected to the system which generate around 500kw green power. Currently residential consumers generate 10MWp (megawatt peak), commercial consumers are generating 13MWp, industrial consumers are generating 33MWp and others 1.4MWp.
Govt had conducted a study and prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for the installation of rooftop solar power plants on govt buildings and also ground mounted solar power plant on govt land.
“The total potential capacity of 41MWp rooftop solar power plant can be installed on the 383 govt buildings,” a senior officer at the secretariat stated, adding, “The total potential capacity of 458.70 MWp ground mounted solar power plant can be installed on govt land.”
The scheme has set out to achieve 1 crore RTS installations in residential sectors across the country and to help provide free/low-cost electricity to 1 crore households of up to 300 units of electricity per month by installing rooftop solar.
“To produce renewable electricity of 1,000 billion units through the capacity installed under the scheme, which will result in reduction of 720 million ton of CO2 equivalent emissions during the 25 years of the lifetime for rooftop solar projects, and to develop the required enabling ecosystem for rooftop solar projects, including regulatory support, manufacturing facilities, supply chain, vendor network, operation & maintenance facilities, etc., in the country,” the guideline said.
SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL), a public sector undertaking (PSU) has proposed to invest over Rs1,300cr to generate 190mw of power by setting up four floating solar projects in the state. Goa would have to purchase the power from the PSU at Rs3.8-4.3per kWh, the proposal stated.
The plants will be set up on the Selaulim, Amthanem, Anjunem, and Chapoli dams. In 2021, the state govt decided to set up a floating solar power plant on four dams in the state and invited expressions of interest (EoI) to set up grid-connected floating solar power plants at these sites. These plants will be set up on the four dams on a design, built, finance, and operate model for 25 years.
Chief minister A Revanth Reddy had a few months ago announced that a comprehensive master plan-2050 would be prepared for the metropolitan region development for the next 25 years.
