LUCKNOW: Residents of Lucknow will receive combined water and house tax from the next financial year, as decided at an executive committee meeting of the civic body.

Municipal commissioner Inderjit Singh stated that this decision aligns with the norms of the Amrut 2.0 scheme of Union govt, aimed at streamlining tax collection processes. “A single unique identification number will be assigned for house tax and water tax payments to the LMC,” he added.

Corporator Laeeq Agha, a member of the EC, praised the decision, stating, “This initiative not only simplifies the tax collection process, but also encourages proactive participation from residents in contributing towards the development of our city.”

Besides, Singh said, residential building owners willing to pay advance house tax for the next financial year (2024-25) by Mar 31 can avail an additional 5% rebate on the tax, increasing the total discount to 15% when combined with the existing 10% and special discounts for advance payment. The EC decided to hold audit of sewerlines laid under Amrut scheme and smart city projects before transferring them to Jal Sansthan.

Procurement of 10 stainless steel tankers, each with a capacity of 6,000 litres and costing Rs 45 lakh, was approved to supply drinking water to areas facing water crisis in summers. Damaged dams at Kathauta and Bharwara lakes will be repaired at the cost of Rs 41 lakh. The EC said that GM of Jalkal Manoj Kumar Arya was transferred to Bareilly. The corporators had accused him of ignoring their calls on civic complaints.

Meanwhile, flyover from Maharana Pratap intersection to Naka Hindola intersection has been named after Guru Gobind Singh and Gomtinagar railway station after former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Road connecting KD Singh Babu Metro station to Moti Mahal Vatika has been renamed as Babu KD Singh Marg while Nazarbagh Chhoti Park has been named after freedom fighter Sher Ali Afridi. Park in front of speed post office in Daliganj Niralanagar ward will be named after Ashok Singhal and statue of Sant Gadge will be installed at Sant Gadge Reservoir Park in Ashiana.

Lucknow development body razes 78 slum houses to pave way to Kukrail riverfront project

The Lucknow Development Authority demolished 78 houses in Akbarnagar slums for the Kukrail riverfront development project. The operation caused emotional distress to residents, who were provided homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. LDA vice-chairman, Indramani Tripathi, supervised the operation.
