PUNE: PMRDA commissioner Rahul Mahiwal on Monday told TOI that he had kept 20 of the 50 proposals received last week on hold as the developers failed to show a clear water source for the projects.

“These proposals will not be cleared till there is clarity on the water source… Around 200-plus building proposals received in the last two months are under scanner. Each proposal will be followed with a site visit and the entire process will commence from February,” he said.

These projects are located in the Maval, Mulshi and Haveli talukas of Pune district where construction activities are booming.

The checks have been initiated following the directives from divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao last week. Rao had told Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal commissioners and PMRDA not to allow construction activities unless the builders identify the sources of water that they intend to provide to the property occupants.

“Each proposal will be taken up individually. Permissions will be withdrawn if there is no one residing in the complex yet. We will check for the water sources assured by the developer,” said the PMRDA commissioner.

Officials from the building permission department said the permissions issued based on the gram panchayat NOC and builders’ affidavits would be rechecked.

The divisional commissioner had directed PMRDA to not rely solely on the developers’ affidavits on water provision while granting building permissions. Following the directions of Bombay high court, the divisional commissioner had invited citizens to voice their concerns over water supply last Monday. Around 60 citizens had raised issued on water supply.

Swinging into action, the PMRDA, which has over 800 villages, two municipal corporations, seven municipal councils and the three cantonment boards under its jurisdiction, has decided to closely inspect the building projects it has sanctioned.
