INDORE: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), which identified around 6,000 residential structures in the construction of 22 major roads and riverside development works, has only about 200 flats ready to shift the affected families. This has forced the civic body to prioritise the projects. As per the official data, IMC identified a total of 2,875 residential, commercial, and industrial lands as hurdles in the construction of 22 roads, along with 97 religious structures.
Similarly, the civic body marked close to 3,000 structures, almost all residential, falling within 30 metres of the highest flow level of both the Saraswati and Kanh Rivers, which would be removed as part of the rejuvenation project.
IMC received a fund of Rs 511 crore under National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMGC) for the river rejuvenation, while a budget was also allocated for the road construction works in Indore.
The lack of availability of the flats, however, forced the civic body to prioritise the projects as IMC presently undertook a total of 1,047 one BHK flats under the PMAY scheme that would be allotted to the affected families. Of these, only around 200 units are in the ready-possession status.
“Our priority is to first construct the roads to ease traffic and facilitate commuters,” IMC commissioner Shivam Verma said, adding that among the around 3,000 structures identified for the widening/construction of 22 major roads, only around 5-7% would be fully razed. “Only those whose houses would be completely razed down are eligible to be allotted the flats,” he said.
“A survey of such families would be carried out,” the commissioner said, adding that presently, IMC has ‘sufficient’ units of flats to accommodate those whose houses would be completely razed down. “We have planned the construction of separate units of flats under NMGC for those whose houses would be razed down in the riverside development project, and thus, a proposal would be sent to the concerned agencies,” he said.
