KANPUR: Kanpur Metro successfully completed track construction on the ‘downline’ up to Kanpur Central, marking another significant milestone. With this achievement, the train route is now fully prepared on both lines from IIT to Kanpur Central under corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta).

In the coming days, the installation of the third rail on the ‘downline’ to Kanpur Central will also be completed. Construction of track slabs on the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section is progressing rapidly.

During his visit to Kanpur on Sunday, UPMRC managing director Sushil Kumar inspected various underground stations and held a meeting with senior officials to review the progress of works across all departments. Track construction for Kanpur Metro is advancing alongside the civil construction of stations.

After completing the track work from the ramp area at McRobertganj to Nayaganj station on the ‘downline’, construction began in September on a 1,500-metre (approx.) stretch between Nayaganj and Kanpur Central station, which is now finished. With this, the metro track on both lines is now extended from IIT to Kanpur Central station. Notably, UPMRC aims to launch passenger services from IIT to Kanpur Central in January 2025.

Kanpur Metro uses ballast-less tracks for construction. Additionally, provisions have been made to install a Third Rail along with Derailment Guards on the track slabs. A mass spring system is also being implemented in the track to effectively absorb vibrations and reduce noise.

Sushil Kumar, along with director of works & infrastructure CP Singh, director of operations Prashant Mishra, and senior officials from various departments, visited the under-construction underground stations of Kanpur Metro.

Following the visit, the officials convened a meeting at the Kanpur metro depot near Gurudev Chauraha, where they reviewed the progress of work across various departments and issued necessary instructions to the officials of the contracting agencies.
