MANGALURU: The Congress govt in the state wants poor people to stay homeless. It has not signed the memorandum of agreement (MoA) to identify beneficiaries for PM Awas Yojana, alleged Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta.

The MP informed Parliament during the session that the Karnataka govt is yet to sign the MoA to identify beneficiaries for the scheme.

“As of Dec 5, 29 States/UTs have signed the MoA but Karnataka has not,” said Capt Chowta.

In a written response to the question raised by the MP regarding the implementation of PMAY-2, minister of state for housing and urban affairs Tokhan Sahu said the identification of the beneficiaries is done by the respective state/UT govts based on eligibility criteria defined in the scheme guidelines.

As a pre-requisite, states/UTs were mandated to sign a MoA with the ministry agreeing on the implementation of reforms stipulated in the scheme guidelines and initiate the demand survey for further submission to the ministry for sanctioning of houses. While 29 states/UTs have signed the MoA to implement PMAY-U 2.0 as per scheme guidelines, Karnataka has not signed it so far,” the MP said.

“I hereby urge the Karnataka govt to stop playing politics with the lives of people and initiate the process so that the poor and weaker sections of society, especially the women who the scheme gives priority to, are able to avail the benefits and have a roof above their heads,” said Capt Chowta.

“On one hand, they empty the state coffers with their unscientific schemes, on the other they deprive the people of being part of PM Narendra Modi’s wave of Vikas by not proactively letting people benefit from the central schemes. Instead of crying foul all the time and trying to fool people, the govt should enable people to easily avail the benefits of the schemes of our union govt,” he added.
