LUDHIANA: Glada officials Saturday evicted illegal occupiers of three low-income group flats on Chandigarh Road in Sector-40. The action was taken following a case pending in court.

The officials said Glada had built 319 low-income group flats in Sector 40, of which 82 were occupied illegally. Out of the 82, fifty-eight flats were freed from illegal occupiers last Jan and 21 in August with the help of a duty magistrate and police. The illegal occupants of three other flats — 834, 847 and 848 — were left to be evicted.

They had kept their belongings in these flats, and locked them from outside. Glada officials broke the locks with a cutter, opened the doors and threw out the belongings. A video of the entire exercise was also shot. The flats that were freed from illegal occupation have been sealed by the authorities. A notice has also been pasted on them, warning that if any attempt is made to break the seal and reoccupy these flats, legal action will be taken against the offenders.
