NAGPUR: Commissioner of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Abhijeet Chaudhari has set a Rs350 crore tax collection target for the 2024-25 fiscal year. The tax department of the civic body has recently launched a major drive for recovering property taxes, especially targeting defaulters.

Following the tax target set by Chaudhari, NMC officials have issued warrants and attached properties of tax defaulters across the city. Chaudhari has also directed the Nehru Nagar zone to recover Rs39.50 crore.

The NMC has ramped up tax recovery efforts and attachment proceedings have been initiated against multiple properties with substantial outstanding dues. Among these, Rs1.62 lakh due from one Jethalal Khandwani led to the initiation of property attachment proceedings. Similarly, action was taken against Venkatesh Nagar Builder, who owed Rs1.59 lakh in property tax, and Sharif Md Rafiq Khan, having dues amounting to Rs2.08 lakh.

On Tuesday, a total of 45 properties — having total outstanding tax dues of Rs22.60 lakhs — were attached. Also, Rs7.93 lakhs was recovered from 5 property owners during warrant proceedings.

The recovery operations were conducted under the directions of deputy commissioner (Revenue) Milind Meshram and other tax department officials.
