NOIDA: The second arm of the Aqua Line that is proposed to connect Greater Noida directly with the Blue and Magenta lines at Botanical Garden is likely to be ready in 36 months after the central and state governments approve the project report.

On Wednesday, Noida Metro gave a go-ahead to the 11.6km corridor that will have eight stations — most of them in residential sectors along the Noida expressway that has emerged as a housing hub.

On November 30, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which was given the responsibility to chalk out the project details, submitted a revised draft of the metro corridor to include new stations near the Noida Authority’s upcoming office in Sector 96, besides Sectors 44, 105 and 93 on an elevated corridor parallel to the expressway. It will run straight to DMRC’s Botanical Garden, where a new station will act as an interchange for the Blue and Magenta lines.

The other stations on the route are Sectors 97, Sector 108 near the Police Commissioner’s office and Sector 91 near Panchsheel Balak Inter College. It will connect the existing Aqua Line corridor at Sector 142. The June 2022 project draft for the corridor had only five stations.

Noida CEO Lokesh M, who is also NMRC’s managing director, said Noida Metro will now send the project report to the state cabinet and central government for their approval.

“Once the approval is granted and a contractor hired, it will take about 36 months for completion of the project,” he said. Lokesh M did not share a specific date when the construction would begin but said the metro corridor was estimated to cost Rs 2,254.35 crore.
