NOIDA: About 32 highrises under division 1 of the city’s power department have opted for multipoint meter connections. Most of these societies are in the 7x sectors, including Supertech Capetown in Sector 74, E-Homes Dasnac and JM Aroma in Sector 75, and Antriksh Forest and Antriksh Kanball 3G in Sector 77.

A multipoint system connects each apartment directly to the power discom, avoiding extra charges. In contrast, a single-point system connects the entire building, leading to higher costs: Rs 7 per unit plus a Rs 120 fixed charge, compared to the discom’s lower tariff of Rs 3 to 7 per unit per kW connection.

Residents must pay a one-time charge of Rs 18,250 each for new meters to be installed by the discom. It can also be paid through EMI.

Maintenance and common area charges, which were previously levied through the prepaid meters installed by the builder, will now have to be paid separately to the apartment owners association (AOA) or the builder as per the society’s control.

The move came following the UP electricity regulatory commission order via the 13th amendment in the electricity supply code dated Aug 10, 2018, mandating the conversion of all single-point connections (of builder highrises) to multipoint connections with the consent of at least 51% of the apartment-dwellers.

Several societies have not availed of the move due to disagreements over the segregation of the maintenance charge levied through prepaid meters installed in highrises.
