Plaza Retail REIT (PLZ-UN-T) has appointed former Canadian Net REIT CEO Jason Parravano chief operating officer effective Jan. 8, 2024. 

“On behalf of the board and the entire team, we are pleased to welcome Jason Parravano as COO,” Michael Zakuta, Plaza’s president and chief executive officer, said in the announcement. “His leadership skills, experience in commercial real estate and in the financial industry make Jason a great fit for this role.

“We look forward to working with him in continuing to advance the REIT’s strategic objectives and driving growth for many years to come.”

Prior to joining the Walter Group as chief financial officer of the asset management business activities, Parravano spent eight years at Canadian Net REIT, where he was president and chief executive officer with oversight of day-to-day management of the trust and execution of its strategy.  

He is a graduate of Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business and holds a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

Caco new BGO head of Canadian development

BGO has promoted Brad Caco as its head of Canadian development, responsible for delivering on the firm’s $8 billion nationwide real estate development pipeline across all asset classes. 

In Canada, BGO’s development team is responsible for all development, design and construction activities and directly supports the acquisition and development initiatives of the firm’s real estate investment management advisory business.

“Brad’s promotion into the role of head of Canadian development is a testament to his hard work and record of exceptional delivery for our clients over the past seven years,” Christina Iacoucci, Canadian chief investment officer, and head of investment management for BGO in Canada, said in the announcement.

Caco joined Bentall Kennedy, a predecessor firm to BGO, in 2016, with responsibility for leading the firm’s eastern Canada development activity.

He has played a first-hand role in growing the development pipeline to 19 projects valued at over $4.8 billion, at various stages of development and construction.

Creswell becomes Trez executive MD

Trez Capital appointed John L. Creswell executive managing director, global head of capital raising. 

As a new member of Trez Capital’s executive leadership team, based in the United States, Creswell will lead the Toronto-based capital-raising team, developing and executing the firm’s capital-raising strategy across all distribution channels, including institutional, retail and private wealth, throughout all global markets.

He has over 20 years of experience and brings extensive global capital-raising and investment management expertise to the firm. Before joining Trez, Creswell served as executive managing director at Duff & Phelps Investment Management Co.

Creswell also worked for BNP Paribas Asset Management N.A., Nuveen Investments and Ernst & Young.

Creswell received a bachelor of arts in business administration from California State University at Fullerton and a master of arts in public policy from The Claremont Graduate University.

Masotti moves to Hines

Michael Masotti has joined Hines as senior director of leasing, Canada.

In the newly created role, he’ll be responsible for leasing strategy and execution for Hines’ commercial real estate portfolio across Canada.

He will also play a key role in managing the project and property leasing teams, and maintaining and growing the company’s third-party intermediary relationships.

Masotti has over 11 years of brokerage, sales and leadership experience, most recently serving as senior director, industrial leasing, North America at Ivanhoé Cambridge. Prior to that, he was associate vice-president at Devencore.

Masotti earned a bachelor of commerce, finance and marketing at McGill University and holds a certification in financial analysis for commercial investment real estate from The CCIM Institute.

AY names Calgary MD, adds five in Ottawa

Avison Young has announced several appointments in two cities, including naming Brennan Yadlowski managing director of the Calgary office, effective in the new year.

Yadlowski joined Avison Young in 2018 in the Edmonton office, working with the capital markets and mortgage practices. From there, he moved to Calgary to lead the mortgage team.

As MD, Yadlowski will focus on business development and prioritizing initiatives that expand the firm’s market share in Calgary. 

Yadlowski will succeed Todd Throndson who, after 26 years as principal and managing director in the two Alberta offices, will be moving to a different role.

Avison Young also named a new capital markets team in Ottawa; principal Graeme Webster; sales representative, senior associate Benjamin Burns; and senior associate, brokerage services Jessica Thalen.

With more than 30 years of combined experience, the trio will focus on transactions involving office, industrial and retail properties in the Ottawa area.

Prior to joining Avison Young, Webster held positions at Colliers and District Realty, and most recently was partner and co-founder at Ottawa boutique firm KOBLE Commercial Real Estate Inc. He has over 19 years of industry experience.

Burns brings five years of experience in the Ottawa market, while Thalen has over 11 years of experience. Both had previously been with Webster at KOBLE.

Brokers Giorgio DiNardo and David MacLeod also joined the Ottawa office leasing team as vice-presidents, bringing nearly a decade of industry experience.

DiNardo graduated from Guelph University with a degree in real estate and housing, and MacLeod entered the industry via Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Que.

Rawle becomes CFO at Nexus REIT

Nexus Industrial REIT (NXR-UN-T) announced Mike Rawle has been appointed chief financial officer effective Jan. 8, 2024. Rawle will replace Robert Chiasson, who is stepping down to pursue other opportunities.

Rawle has over 20 years of progressive finance experience, most recently at Maple Leaf Foods where he has held senior positions as vice-president, finance and treasurer and vice-president, investor relations and treasury. 

He began his career at Ernst & Young LLP, eventually moving to Barrick Gold Corporation where he held various financial roles in Toronto, South Africa, and Barbados. Later, he worked at Uranium One Inc. as vice-president, treasurer.

Rawle earned a bachelor of commerce degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont., and is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a CFA charterholder.
