JAIPUR: State govt Thursday formed a four-member cabinet sub-committee to review proposals received from different districts for merger or delimitation of urban local bodies (ULBs).
The committee will be headed by urban development and housing (UDH) minister Jhabar Singh Kharra. Members include cabinet minister for water resources, Suresh Singh Rawat, forest minister Sanjay Sharma, and cooperatives minister Gautam Kumar.
An order issued by secretary general of administrative department, Joga Ram, said the committee will assess changes in boundaries of municipal corporations, municipal councils, and municipalities, and will create or abolish new urban bodies. The committee will submit its report to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the order said.
The committee has been tasked with preparing a blueprint for reorganising urban local bodies and to give relaxation to those areas which do not fulfil criteria to become an urban body.
The committee can also reject proposals which follow all norms as down by the department but do not have any significance from an administrative point of view.
