UDHAGAMANDALAM: A plot of government land has been identified on Yedapalli-Bandhimai Road in Coonoor taluk for setting up a Tidel park, tourism minister K Ramachandran said on Thursday.

After inspecting the site, the minister said that a proposal in this regard would soon be sent to the government. The setting up of a Tidel park in the Nilgiris was one of the election promises made by the DMK.

Speaking to TOI, Ramachandran said, “We always demanded that the government set up aTidel park in the Nilgiris to create job opportunities for local youth. It took 1 year to identify a suitable land for the purpose.”

He said that at least 10 acres of land is required for setting up a tidel park and identifying such a government land with flat terrain and road facility is a challenging task in the Nilgiris.
