Since Allison knew she didn’t have the time to redo the layout of the trailer, she used quick construction edits like adding a built-in dining bench, removing the textured ceiling, and adding floor-to-ceiling cabinets to modernize the space while maximizing its practicality as a second home. Another practical consideration was furniture availability. Knowing that even if she turned around a design proposal within the week, her selections would have to be available. This meant getting innovative with hunting for pieces at major retailers like IKEA (for window treatments). “We had them tailored to fit the space [and] wrapped the entire living area in them to give a very cozy, magical feel,” Allison says. She also sourced decor items, like the surfboard in the dining area, from places like Facebook Marketplace.
Speaking of the living room, Allison shares that she knew her client would want a space that felt comfortable but also practical for hosting friends. She sourced the sofa from Joss & Main and then rounded out the room with lamps, a console table, and accent chairs from Target. She explains, “with this project, the way we elevated the quick-ship retail products was by mixing [elements] with custom [pieces].” Similarly, in the bedroom Allison convinced her client to hold on to the built-in nightstands and only refresh them with a coat of paint and sconces from Etsy. The room was further elevated by wallpaper from Eskayel.
