Tyler Cameron is well aware that not everything can stand the test of time. In 2019, he joined season 15 of The Bachelorette, where he competed for lead Hannah Brown’s heart and quickly became a fan favorite. He’s since fostered a dedicated following of supporters in addition to competing on other shows, such as The Real Dirty Dancing, but with his newest venture, he hopes to build something more permanent. “There’s always going to be someone new, someone cooler, someone better. I’ve always had this thought in the back of my mind that this can’t last forever,” the former reality TV contestant tells AD. His newest venture is a home remodeling and construction business, perhaps the most reciprocal reaction to this astute observation. After all, what is more permanent than a home built to last generations?
After spending much of his childhood at construction sites—his father was a general contractor—Cameron started his post-college life working as a project engineer at a pool construction company. “I loved that job, but it also taught me that I wanted to start my own thing,” he says. “So I got my general contractor license and started building my first house.”
He would build that home and one more before getting the call to join the Bachelorette cast. “Once the TV world hit me, I was like, This is fun and new and different. So I chased that,” he explains. “And then the pandemic happened, and that brought me back to my hometown, Jupiter, Florida.”
Though it had been years since he built his first two homes, he soon felt a familiar “construction itch” while reconnecting with his roots in the Sunshine State. “I was seeing so much happening in my hometown, so I started buying land,” he says. “My dad and I partnered on two houses, we built those together, and then I just got back into it.” It was around this time that his company, Image 1 Construction, began taking on remodeling clients—a journey fans can watch on the new Amazon Prime show Going Home with Tyler Cameron, premiering on April 18.
