AHMEDABAD: The blacklisting of two firms due to incomplete housing projects will cost Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Rs 45.94 crore more to engage a new contractor to finish the pending work.

The Housing Improvement and Urban Poor Housing Scheme Committee endorsed two proposals on Friday that will cost the AMC Rs 45.94 crore. The AMC initiated two housing projects in Motera and Thaltej five years ago, allocating work to separate firms. Due to non-completion, these firms were blacklisted. A fresh proposal authorising another contractor to complete these projects was sanctioned, increasing costs by Rs 45.94 crore.

The housing committee’s chairman stated that the expenditure will be reclaimed from the blacklisted firms. However, internal sources suggest that recovery of these funds was unlikely.

In 2019-20, the AMC sanctioned a Rs 67.53 crore tender for 1,520 houses with infrastructure in Motera-Koteshwar. After failing to complete the project, the firm Jyoti Infratech was blacklisted in June 2023 for five years. Fresh tenders, totalling Rs 104.36 crore, were approved.

For the Thaltej area project, an Rs 11.75 crore tender was approved for 1,190 houses. Following non-completion by Sanghani Infrastructure India Pvt Ltd, a new proposal with a total tender of Rs 20.86 crore was approved.

On Friday, the housing committee granted extensions for projects in Makarba, Sardarnagar, and Chandkheda, as contractors missed original completion deadlines.
