Between the two of them, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have quite the impressive international reach. Both are revered in their respective industries and, as such, are frequently globe-trotting, and have an international real estate portfolio that reflects it. The Australian-American couple got married in 2006 and began their venture into real estate together shortly afterward.

Over a four-decade-long career and counting, Kidman has cemented herself as a cinematic icon (whether or not she’s even in the movie you’re about to see, as AMC theatergoers can attest) and has found a career renaissance on the small screen in recent years, starring in and producing shows like Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers, and the new Netflix mystery drama series The Perfect Couple. However, in a 2021 interview with The Guardian, the Expats star revealed that that almost didn’t happen. She planned to retire—to “have [her] baby and sit on a farm”—after welcoming her and Urban’s first daughter in 2008. “Until my mum said to me, ‘I don’t think you should just give up.’ I was quite convinced I could grow vegetables and be at home and be very satisfied with that.” Thankfully, Kidman has instead continued to grace our screens, and went on to buy homes in New York City, Beverly Hills, Nashville, and several cities in Australia with her Grammy-winning husband.

The Northman star explained to Harper’s Bazaar that the pair prefers their home life to be comfortable and private, which has likely factored into their real estate decisions. “Obviously, I work hard, but when I’m off, I’m off,” Kidman told the publication in 2018. “Keith and I are very good at immediately clicking off because we have a really good life in Nashville that’s very simple, quiet, and nourishing because we’ve made it like that.” Below is a glimpse into some of the places the actor and country musician call home.

Tennessee compound

In 2007, Kidman and Urban shelled out $2.45 million for their first home together, a 36-acre country spread in Franklin, Tennessee, about 25 miles south of downtown Nashville. The property was immensely private, with a long drive through wooded terrain leading up to the red-brick main house and separate guest cottage. The main house measured 5,086 square feet and featured four bedrooms and four full and two half bathrooms, with immense windows and skylights throughout. Highlights included a main bedroom suite with its own private sitting room, a stone-tile bathroom with a garden tub, and a massive walk-in closet. They listed the home in 2016 and finally found a buyer two years later, for $2.7 million.

Nashville mansion

The couple’s second Nashville property, which they scooped up in 2008, was a much grander affair: a $3.47 million mansion situated in the ritzy gated community of Northumberland. The two-acre spread, known as the Queen of Northumberland, features a 10,925-square-foot main house with seven bedrooms and eight full and two half bathrooms. There is a home theater, a 30-foot-long hobby room, and massive common areas ideal for hosting. The landscaped grounds also offer amenities such as a large swimming pool and tennis courts. The couple considers this to be their primary home and still owns it.

Beverly Hills abode

That same year, the pair also bought a $4.7 million contemporary home in the coveted Beverly Hills Post Office neighborhood of Los Angeles featuring five bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and one half bathroom. Images of the 3,977-square-foot home reveal a primarily stone-and-concrete structure with a flat-top roof, a second-floor wraparound deck, and shaded patio areas for enjoying the warm outdoors. The pair appears to still own this home.

Australian farm

The pair had a busy year for house-shopping in 2008; they began to invest in Australian real estate with the purchase of a rustic farm called Bunya Hill in Sutton Forest, New South Wales. It has been reported that the couple shelled out either a little over $4 million or $6.5 million for the 110-acre property, though an exact amount has not been ascertained. The main house, a Georgian mansion built in 1878, was the backdrop for Kidman’s 73 Questions interview with Vogue. The Practical Magic star’s whirlwind tour of the place gave fans a rare glimpse into the famously private couple’s living quarters: a green-wall pool room just off the main entrance, a charming library with floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelves, and a bright sunlit living room with a wood-burning fireplace, among other rooms of note. There is also a small guest cottage just off the main house, and open fields for cows and other livestock.

Sydney penthouse

The following year, the duo dropped $4 million on a penthouse apartment in Sydney. The 4,521-square-foot unit overlooks the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge, and images from units in the building reveal large glass sliders; pristine minimalist kitchen cabinets and countertops; and an open-plan layout. The penthouse also has access to a covered rooftop area perfect for entertaining on balmy summer nights. Building amenities include a pool, spa, and gym.

In the years since, the couple has continued to expand their footprint in the 25-floor building. In 2011, they bought a $1.8 million unit. The next year, the parents of Sunday, 16, and Faith, 13, upped the ante by purchasing a second penthouse, this time for $4.7 million. The plan was to combine both units into an even larger penthouse.
